New green primary school opens in Caernarfon


A £9.3 million ($14.55 million) Ysgol yr Hendre primary school has opened in Caernarfon, Gwynedd, Wales, UK.


The new contemporary school substitutes the outdated old school and has a capacity to accommodate a maximum of 450. It also houses facilities offering adult education, health and social welfare initiatives along with cultural and sporting activities.

The facility abides by a host of green features. It has been designed to allow maximum penetration of natural light throughout the interior which in turn, reaps energy cost cuts. The methods used during the building's construction process helps keep it warm in the cooler months and cool during summer. This leads to a fall in its carbon footprint by 60%. The facility also employs measures to reclaim rainwater.

The school has already bagged the BREEAM excellent rating owing to incorporation of various sustainable elements.
