New green fitness centre opens at US Air Force Academy

A new $9.5 million Air Force Academy Cadet Fitness Centre has opened at Colorado Springs, Colorado, US.

The new facility has been built by US-based construction firm Korte Company. It is an addition to an aged fitness centre of the academy, built in the 1950s and is situated on the western side of the building. The new facility covers an area of 50,000 square feet offering additional space for weight training, aerobic conditioning, floor aerobics, fencing and spin-cycling classes.

The fitness centre houses a cybex room, climbing walls, cardio equipment, physical fitness testing room, weight room, as well as a fencing centre. The facility has been constructed using Tilt-Up concrete panels with a marble stone veneer.

The building incorporates several green features which has helped it bag the Silver certification from the US Green Building Council.

Construction of the facility was completed in a span of one year and seven days.
