New $127 million mental health hospital opens in Oman


A new $127 million state-of-the-art mental hospital, named as Al Massarah hospital, has opened its doors to the patients in Al Amerat in Oman's Muscat Governate.


Designed with modern technology, the 60,000 square metre Al Massarah hospital is a 245-bed specialist facility for psychological and neurological care.

Built to international standards, the Al Massarah hospital features 10 wards for men, women and children, as well as secure units, which can be used to treat criminals and addicts. It also features accident and emergency department, radiology lab, and electroencephalography.

In addition, the Al Massarah hospital features a day cay centre, a multi-purpose sports hall, swimming pool, open-air sports facilities, management section and wards to inpatients, electric shock therapy, and general services.

The Al Massarah hospital was opened on 14 April 2013 by Oman's minister for social development, Sheikh Mohammed bin Sa'ayed al-Kalbani. It has taken has four years to complete the Al Massarah hospital.
