Nepean Hospital to open new east block
The $87.1 million Nepean Hospital in New South Wales, Australia is set to open its new east block on 18 February 2012.
The block will house six additional operating theatres equipped with advanced equipment. It will also include a pair of new surgical wards with 30 beds each which will substitute the current wards. The new wards will don an open-plan concept while comprising individual TV sets and adjustable beds. The beds can be positioned up and down electronically. The wards will also offer wheelchair accessibility.
The design of the reception space of the building will enable optimum natural light penetration. The look will be complemented by installation of artwork donning the Nepean River and Blue Mountains theme. One of the building's main halls will be adorned with an installation by Annette Barlow. The creation will be made of glass and will measure two floors in height.
The medical instruments for operations will be stored in a separate sterile room. The room will incorporate hepafiltration to restrict bacterial contamination. Among other features of the block are consulting rooms, a new Ambulatory Procedures Centre, and clinics for outpatient care.
