Morgan Sindall to build Network Rail’s operating centre in Manchester
UK-based construction services provider Morgan Sindall has won £15.9 million ($25.53 million) contract to build Network Rail’s North West Operating Centre in Manchester.
The centre will be a three-storied building made of steel-frame. The building would be a composite structure and feature a variety of specialist design and construction methods and techniques. The centre will be built using laminated, strengthened glass panels and curtain wall cladding.
The building will feature attractive and sustainable green roof, which will be planted with sedum vegetation to absorb rainwater and provide insulation. It will also be highly insulated to avoid energy wastage.
The new facility will accommodate Network Rail's personnel and control equipment. It will be used as a base to operate all of Network Rail's operations in the region.
The steel-framed building is designed to achieve a BREEAM 'Very Good' rating and is expected to be completed by December 2013.
