Molonglo Group tops out Nishi commercial building
Molonglo Group has topped out the Nishi commercial building in the $550 million NewActon neighbourhood in Canberra, Australia.
The building will accommodate the new Department of Climate Change and Energy Efficiency headquarters, and offices for the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission and legal firm Clayton Utz. It will also sport commercial area spanning 20,700 square metres, 250 residential apartments, as well as shops, cafes, and retail units. Among its various other features are different public amenities, a landscaped atrium, as well as mixed-use communal zones.
The facility will imbibe a host of green features. It includes installation of a solar array which is slated to be the largest single building solar panel array installation in Australia. The opening windows and operation of the air conditioning unit of the facility will be controlled by a computer system. The building façade will make use of timber sourced from sustainably harvested forests. The timber façade will offer shade from sunlight. Use of concrete in the building will add to the building's sustainability by keeping it cool.
Construction of the building is due to be completed by the end of 2012.
