Mistwood Golf Club to re-open after renovation

The Mistwood Golf Club in Romeoville, Illinois is scheduled to re-open on 15 June 2012 after undergoing an extensive renovation, designed by Ray Hearn.

The project involved an overall renovation of the 18-hole golf course, with the most significant being the redevelopment of the par-5 third hole. The project has relocated the green of the golf course and repositioned the creek from in-front of the green to backside of the green.

The renovated Mistwood club will now feature 19 stacked sod-wall bunker that will come into play on second shots, a feature which is common in golf courses in Scotland and Ireland, but new to America. The stacked sod-wall bunkers is likely to be the signature feature of the new golf course. The new bunkers have been built in layers of sod, with the grass of one connecting with the grass of the next. This has resulted in the creation of golf course, which is similar to British Open courses.

The project has also lengthened the Mistwood course from 6,701 yards to 7,028 yards from the back tees. The slope has also been increased from 140 to 144 and the rating from 73.0 to 74.7.

The additional work involves a new 6,000 square feet learning center, which is undergoing development and is likely to open in mid-2012. The learning centre will have 13 heated hitting bays in which players will hit from under a roof to the outside and two more bays inside. Provisions have been incorporated for installing an indoor putting green and snack bar with a 240-car parking garage.
