Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital to undergo expansion

Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, is set to undergo a $48 million expansion.

The new facility will be situated adjacent to its hospital at 235 Wealthy Street SE. It will span 114,660 square feet covering four floors. The building will comprise 40 new private patient rooms featuring more spacious living areas and more amenities for the family.

The new building will house new therapy rooms. The new and present therapy rooms will be equipped with new advanced equipments. The facility will also sport new and larger guest quarters for families of patients. Further, plans are on to incorporate skilled nursing beds in a single level of the building. The beds will serve patients affected with spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries.

All outpatient care services services including clinic services, pediatrics and adult rehabilitation services will be consolidated in the new hospital. The services are presently provided in two separate buildings. The Orthotics and Prosthetics Services of the facility such as exam rooms, offices and lab area will also be integrated under a single roof.

In addition, there will be upgrades to over 136,000 square feet of the current hospital. The makeover will transform the semi-private rooms of the existing structure to all-private patient rooms. The main entrance and hospital navigation will be simplified to enable easy use. The revamped facility will also feature a gift shop, coffee shop, and a lounge offering wi-fi access.
