Manchester store shortlisted for Lighting Design Awards 2012

The refurbished Manchester United Stadium Store designed by the UK-based Paul Nulty Lighting Design has been shortlisted for the Lighting Design Awards 2012 in the Retail Design Category.

Compared to the previous store, the refurbished Manchester United Stadium Store offers a low-energy retail environment, approximately 15W/m 2, which measures 50% reduction in energy use.

Though lighting levels have been reduced, the merchandise is centre stage with increased illumination levels on product, and a design that provides an increased contrast ratio of 12:1 between merchandise and circulation. In order to reduce the consumption of energy, simple track and spot luminaires have been used on the main floor, whereas recycled and relocated luminaires have been used in other areas. To make the project cost-effective as well as environment-friendly, 25% of the luminaires have been recycled.

Lighting Design Awards is the biggest and most prestigious architectural lighting competition in the world, which encourages lighting manufacturing and designing companies to showcase their products.
