Maarten De Ceulaer creates Mutation furniture series

Belgian designer Maarten De Ceulaer has created the Mutation Series of furniture.

The design of the new furniture collection draws reference to the organic transformation of cells which have grown out of scale owing to a virus or nuclear reaction. The line includes small ottomans and stools, large sofas and chairs which offer a contemporary take on classical furniture upholstery. The items of the range is made by creating patterns with cut-offs of foam spheres which sport a host of sizes. The patterns are then applied onto a structure.

The final output is got by offering a coating of a durable rubber or tactile velvet-like finish to the complete piece. Each of the resultant items incorporate an entirely distinct look as possibilities of recreating a particular pattern is almost nil.
