Lutheran Children's Hospital in Indiana breaks ground for new ER

Lutheran Children's Hospital (LCH) in Indiana has broken ground for the second $2.4 million Emergency Room, which is designed by the US-based architectural practice Morrison Kattman Menze Inc.

Constructed on a 7,108 square feet area, the new ER is adjacent to Lutheran's main emergency department that will soon become a separate unit devoted exclusively to pediatric emergency care.

Upon completion, the new child-friendly ER will feature a separate waiting area, nursing station, and seven private exam rooms located within their own secured unit.

All exam rooms will have televisions and DVD players, access to video games, a rocker recliner and size-appropriate equipment for pediatric patients. Once completed, the LCH ER will be open 24 hours a day.

Indiana-based Weigand Construction is the general contractor for this project. Official work on the project is scheduled to begin on 15 April 2013 and is expected to be complete in October 2013.
