LPA Incorporation's studio in Wonder Bread Building wins LEED Gold

San Diego architecture firm LPA Incorporation's East Village office in historic Wonder Bread Building in California, US has bagged LEED Gold Certification from the US Green Building Council.

The building has been upgraded to imbibe several green features while keeping its historicity intact. It has now installed operable windows which offer maximum passage of daylight and natural air. The former grain silos have been converted into collaboration pods which use the openings of the roof as skylights and optimise natural light penetration in the space. The existing track lighting of the building has been reused along with new energy-saving lighting and occupancy sensor controls.

The facility is now devoid of private offices and features collaborative workstations. The work stations are formed of reclaimed materials procured via local sources. The exterior office sign and collaboration pods have made use of cold, rolled steel as an architectural element. The concrete flooring of the building has been retained.

The facility has utilised low-VOC paints and products. It has also implemented green housekeeping practices, and in-house recycling of paper, aluminum and plastic.
