Los Angeles convention centre hall designs unveiled

Anschutz Entertainment Group has unveiled designs of the new $275 million convention centre hall in Los Angeles, California.

The project has been designed by Populous. The new hall, to be branded LACOEX, forms part of an expansion of the Los Angeles Convention Centre, originally constructed in 1971. It will replace the West Hall of the convention centre which will be demolished. The facility will cover an area of 20,000 square feet and will be linked to the planned Farmers Field football in Los Angeles.

The new building will be elevated one floor above the street, thereby facilitating movement of vehicles below. The project will also involve creation of new meeting rooms and a spacious interior mixed-use area. The Gilbert Lindsay Plaza will undergo an overhaul and will increase the amount of green space and additional gardens to twice its existing amount.

Work is due to commence by 2013 and be completed by 2016.
