The project encompassed redevelopment of the pristine hotel to infuse life into the grand colonial style hotel of San Diego. The $4 million renovation project, which began in 2010, involved retrofitting and replacement of the red shingled roof, which was once the signature of the hotel.

The project also brought back the hotel's original terrazzo flooring in the lobby and revamped the historic terrazzo Johnny Weismueller designed Olympic pool. The Mississippi Ballroom of the hotel also underwent a complete transformation.

Additional work involved installation of high-tech fitness equipment, which will add to the comfort of the guests. In partnership with San Diego Gas & Electric, the hotel has implemented certain techniques which will reduce annual operating costs by $70,000.

The hotel has also installed a ClearEdge Power fuel cell system, which is likely to assist it to cutback its annual power utility bill by approximately $30,000 and carbon dioxide emissions by 100 tons per annum.
