KU to open Business Engineering Science and Technology building

University of Kansas' (KU) Edwards Campus in Overland Park, Kansas, is set to open the $23 million Business Engineering Science and Technology building on 2 March 2012.

The facility has been designed by Gould Evans and is being developed by Mcpherson Contractors Incorporation. It will span over an area of 75,000 square feet. The building will house several classrooms which have been particularly configured to serve academic programmes such as active classroom discussions with some of them designed to conduct team exercises.

Among other features of the new structure are computer labs, faculty offices, as well as a business conference centre. The design of the building will facilitate use of laptops and wireless connections. Further, it will employ a host of green features conforming to LEED standards. These features are expected to reap energy cost cuts of 60% over similar buildings.

The building has been financed via the Johnson County Education and Research Triangle. The Triangle Initiative was carried out by a one-eighth cent sales tax sanctioned by Johnson County voters in November 2008.
