Knox centre shortlisted for 2013 Dulux Colour Awards

The Knox Innovation, Opportunity and Sustainability Centre (KIOSC) in Victoria, Australia, designed by Woods Bagot, has been shortlisted for the 2013 Dulux Colour Awards.

A finalist in the Commercial Exteriors category, the building's colours, particularly on the bladed facade, forms an integral aspect of the design. As the University’s flagship sustainability centre, the colour green has been chosen for the sun blades which represents nature in the most organic way, providing the building a dynamic, organic quality.

The subtle transition of colours on the rhythmic sun-blades appears visually captivating. The careful selection of colour tones referenced the varying colours in the campus’ natural landscape, providing a contextually sensitive design response.

As a training hub for the delivery of green education focusing on environmental sustainability and responsible management, the design concept was to create a place for interactive learning, discovery and change. The building itself was conceived as a learning tool to showcase innovative sustainable building systems.
