KKE Architects to design Worcestershire Royal Hospital's new Breast Unit

Worcester-based practice KKE Architects have been selected to design the new Breast Unit for the Acute Trust at Worcestershire Royal Hospital in the UK.

The new scheme will consolidate bulk of the breast cancer treatment-related services in one place. The services will be housed in a current 25-year-old single level building located at a slight distance from the main hospital building alongside Nunnery Wood. This building will be upgraded into a dedicated breast unit as part of the project.

The outside walls of the building will be revamped whereas all its windows will be substituted to reap energy cost cuts. The interior of the facility will be remodelled with incorporation of relaxing tones and materials. Its exterior too will be provided a new treatment including timber and render. The renovated property will also comprise a south-facing garden designed by garden designer Olivia Kirk.

The building will imbibe a host of eco-friendly elements following the makeover which include a green roof, and photo-voltaic panels. It will be designed to offer maximum natural light penetration and views of the encompassing area. The facility will also be equipped with efficient insulation system, and a rainwater harvesting system.
