Kier to reconstruct Haiti hotel project

British construction major Kier Group plc has been awarded the design and build contract for a hotel project in Haiti, which forms a major part of the reconstruction scheme of the region that was devastated in 2010 earthquake.

The design work for the hotel is underway, which is headed by Conor Smyth alongside Ian McAllister, Roger Tester, Andy Gilmore and David Westwood.

Located at Port-au-Prince, the 175-bedroom hotel in Haiti will feature five suites, a casual restaurant with private dining area, fitness centre, swimming pool and a lobby area with a bar, shops and lounge. It will also feature a ballroom, which will accommodate 380 people for dining and around 500 theatre-style.

The hotel is being financed by mobile phone provider Digicel Group, and will be operated by Marriott Hotels & Resorts. Full construction operations will begin in March 2013 and are scheduled to be completed by December 2014.
