John Robertson Architects to renovate Great Arthur House in London

UK-based architectural consultancy John Robertson Architects has been appointed to replace the facade of the Great Arthur House, part of the Golden Lane Estate located in London.

The work will include the replacement of the existing aluminium single glazed curtain wall with a new double glazed wall to match the elegant proportions of the existing wall, as reported in bdonline.co.uk. It will also replace individual windows and upgrade the timber balcony doors and fanlights, external redecorations and minor concrete repairs.

The grade II listed building was designed by the 20th century architects Chamberlin, Powell and Bon. It was the first residential tower block in London to be more than 50 metre tall and included 120 flats across 16 storeys.

The design team will submit a planning application by early 2013, with work to begin by late 2012. Key stakeholders including residents, English Heritage and the 20th Century Society will be widely consulted.
