John C. residential scheme in Philadelphia to celebrate topping out ceremony

The $19.5 million John C. Anderson Apartments, one of the first LGBT-friendly, low-income, senior housing projects in the US, will celebrate the topping out ceremony on 5 June 2013, which is designed by WRT Design.

Constructed for the low-income LGBT seniors, the SAGE-endorsed John C. Anderson Apartments is on the leading edge of a trend of housing for this at-need population.

Located at 249 South 13th Street, in the heart of the Philadelphia Gayborhood, the six-storey residence will feature 56 one-bedroom units. Designed with sustainable elements, the Energy Star 3.0 building will feature a vegetated green roof and solar thermal hot water system.

It will also feature multi-purpose public spaces, which will be shared by residents and the larger community. Apart from that there are also plans for nearly 2,000 square feet of available ground floor retail space with substantial frontage along 13th Street.

US-based Pennrose Properties is overseeing the project and Domus Inc. is the general contractor. The project broke ground for the construction on November 2012, and is expected to complete by December 2013.

The $19.5 million HUD/White House-championed public/private partnership was financed through a Philadelphia HOME grant, Pennsylvania Redevelopment Assistance Capital Program funds, and Low-Income Housing Tax Credits.
