JetBlue gets approval for new terminal at JFK
US-based JetBlue Airways has secured the approval of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's Board of Commissioners for the expansion of terminal 5 at John F Kennedy (JFK) airport in New York.
The company has secured approval for the expansion of terminal 5 of the airport, dubbed as T5i. The extension will boast an area of 145,000 square feet spread over three floors onto terminal 5. The terminal will enable JetBlue to handle wide-body aircraft operated by partner airlines.
The extension will accommodate dedicated gates for JetBlue international arrivals, as well as a new Federal Inspection Site to handle US customs and immigration checks. The airlines intends to break ground on the project in mid-2012 and anticipates completing it by early 2015.
