Irvine Company to build 19-storey tower at Newport Center
Irvine Company plans to build a 19-storey office building next to its existing Newport Center headquarters starting from early 2013.
The new office tower would be located at 520 Newport Center Drive, and will span about 300,000 square feet. Designed by Pei Cobb Freed & Partners Architects of New York, the building will be constructed about two blocks from the 20-storey office that is now being built for investment manager Pacific Investment Management Co. at Newport Center.
The new office tower is part of Irvine Co.’s long-term master plan for Newport Center, an upscale office and hotel complex surrounding the Fashion Island shopping center. According to the company, architect William Pereira's original 1960s Irvine Ranch master plan included the first concept for the tower that will be built in Newport Center.
Work is expected to complete by 2014. Together, the two buildings are expected to become one of the most prominent office spaces.
