IFHF breaks ground on two $11 million centres in Virginia, North Carolina
Intrepid Fallen Heroes Fund (IFHF) has broken ground on two new $11 million facilities in Virginia and North Carolina, US which will treat traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post traumatic stress (PTS) conditions.
The two new National Intrepid Centers of Excellence (NICoE) will be built at Fort Belvoir, Virginia and Camp LeJeune, North Carolina for the American service members living with traumatic head injuries from exposure to IEDs in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Both the facilities will be state-of-the art NICoE Satellite Centers and will offer 25,000 square feet of space. The design of the centres will follow the design pattern of the original NICoE.
The facilities will accommodate Intake/Clinic area, which will house psychiatric testing, chiropractic treatment, acupuncture, neuro psych testing rooms, and exam rooms; Physical Therapy space consisting of open gym layout with physical therapy equipment including adjustable mat tables, parallel bars, treadmills, alter-G gait trainer, and other therapy items; Sleep Lab featuring one sleep room, equipped with a sleep system and ambient therapy music, and a control room with a computer monitoring system.
The other facilities at the centre will consist of a Central Park which will offer an innovative, multi-purpose environment, which will foster physical therapy and family activities. The Central Park will have therapeutic labyrinth for meditation and focusing exercises and a natural setting with trees, shrubs, and water elements.
The new centres will also have a Family Room, which will serve as a reprieve space, where patients and families can spend time together.
