Developers with the US-based Hollywood Wax Museum have unveiled a toned-down version of the design for the new branch of the museum to be opened at Myrtle Beach before the Myrtle Beach Community Appearance Board.

The Hollywood Wax Museum Myrtle Beach is proposed to be built at the former NASCAR Cafe building at the corner of US 17 Bypass and 21st Avenue North in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. The developers made various changes after the Community Appearance Board (CAB) criticised the original design when it was first presented in January 2013.

As part of the design improvement, the museum has removed several aspects of the exterior design, including a Mount Rushmore on one side and the well-known Hollywood sign on the other. In addition, shooting stars around the Hollywood Wax Museum sign at the front of the building have been removed.

However, the centerpiece, towering city buildings being scaled by King Kong, will remain unchanged. Planners have also proportionally reduced the size of model skyscrapers and a giant gorilla. While the skyskrapers have been reduced from 100 to 80 feet, the gorilla is down from 36 to 30 feet.

Museum officials didn’t disclosed the opening details of Myrtle Beach location. The museum is working with Burroughs & Chapin Co., which owns the former NASCAR Cafe building.

Hollywood Wax Museum was started in February 1965 with life-size wax figures of celebrities. The Myrtle Beach museum would be the fourth in the US. The others are in Hollywood; Pigeon Forge; Tennesee; and Branson.
