Holloways of Ludlow wins award at 2012 Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards

Robert Burnett from Holloways of Ludlow has won the ‘Kitchen Design of the Year’ over £25,000 ($40, 000) category at the 2012 edition of Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards.

Robert Burnett won the award for his design of a classically styled, elegant, open-plan kitchen. The kitchen furniture includes cabinets that were designed to provide separation between the kitchen and the front door, which opens on to a busy London street. Tall double-sided cabinets have featured which create an entrance hall, and provide two metres of practical wardrobe storage for coats, bags and shoes on one side and kitchen storage space on the other. This storage space features a large fridge-freezer, and pullout larder.

The kitchen island of the space aligns with the feature sash window, and allows plenty of circulation space for a busy kitchen. As the kitchen does not feature any wall cabinets, the space beneath the island and above the tall cabinets, lend a light and open aesthetic.

The cabinets were handmade from a mix of tulipwood and oak, at the Holloways of Ludlow workshop in West London and hand painted using an oil-based eggshell. Doors, drawers, bins, and larder storage operate on the latest smooth running mechanisms. The worktops are a combination of natural slate and solid oak. Pillow-edged limestone floors, handmade wall tiles, and colourful accessories add warmth, interest and individuality to this kitchen.

Holloways of Ludlow were also shortlisted as finalist in the ‘Special Award for Craftsmanship’ category. The Award was presented at the 10th Anniversary Designer Kitchen & Bathroom Awards reception luncheon that was hosted at The Pavilion, The Tower of London on 15 November 2012.
