Hillsboro Baseball Ballpark to feature interactive sculpture

The city of Hillsboro in Oregon, US has selected sculptor Devin Laurence Field to design a sculpture called 'Barometer' at the new 4,500-seat, Hillsboro Baseball Ballpark.

Barometer, which is under construction at the entry plaza of Gordon Faber Recreation Complex, will be 15 feet tall. The stainless steel sculpture is designed to be interactive in various ways.

It will be equipped with colour changing, sound activated LED lights. The laser-cut skin of the diamond form is adorned with intricate patterns of baseball bats and balls. The sculpture also includes various instruments like a giant horn, a rattle roller, drum sets and chimes, and will respond to noise.

Budget for the $15.2 million Hillsboro Baseball Ballpark included $50,000 for public art, but the commission approved spending an additional $10,000. This is expected to come from the Cultural Arts Budget.
