Hellman-Chang debuts two categories, five products
Brooklyn-based furniture company Hellman-Chang has expanded its body of work with the addition of two new categories and five new products.
The two category debuts include The Avery chair and The Anora lamp, and five new designs include Elise Cocktail Table, Crawford Bookshelf, Meridian Round Table, Z Side Table, and the Parker Dining Table.
Four years in the making, the Avery Chair is fabricated with solid wood and Mortise & Tenon joinery. The chair is a modern take on an age-old technique. This is Hellman-Chang's first foray into seating design.
The Anora Lamp makes its debut with its roots in the company's well-known Z line. It features simple and elegant design to complement the craftsmanship.
The Elise Cocktail Table juxtaposes a solid wood medium with a delicate Starfire glass surface. To create the Elise, local raw wood is milled and carefully shaped in-house. Custom jigs perfect the table's sloping curves and smooth edges, while reverse-form bending gradually creates the precise curvature of the panels.
Crawford Bookshelf features a structured wood medium, coupled with crystal-clear Starfire glass that gives the illusion of books floating in mid-air. The locally sourced wood is used for the Crawford while the Starfire glass shelving is tempered and polished. Patent pending glass fixtures designed by Hellman-Chang are fabricated from cold-rolled steel, ensuring long-term durability.
Hellman-Chang's signature coved arcs are shaped by hand to form Meridian Round tabletop's contemporary pillar legs. All surfaces are hand-sanded and smooth to the touch and each base is uniquely positioned.
With roots in Hellman-Chang's Z line, the Z Side Table utilises traditional Mortise & Tenon joinery to create a modern accent piece. A spokeshave is used to shave the distinctly smooth shape on the Z Side table's legs. This age-old tool was originally designed to round wood into spokes for wagon wheels.
The facets of Parker dining table are elegant and smooth to the touch. The base is assembled with Mortise & Tenon joinery for a sleek, strong build, while bevels adorn the top of the table. Finally, custom Starfire glass is precisely fitted to the base and top to add fluidity to the final form.
