Hamad International Airport to begin operations in April 2013

Hamad International Airport (HIA) in Doha, Qatar is all set to open on 1 April 2013.

HIA has been designed as a unique airport set against a beautiful man made lagoon and landscaping. The design complements the airport’s natural bay and coastal setting. HOK designed the airport’s 600,000-square-metre main passenger terminal and five airport concourses. The roof of the passenger terminal complex creates an architectural feature, which is influenced by the waves of the Arabian Gulf.

A signage directs passengers to the eastern side of the short term car park located opposite the passenger terminal complex. Pick up and drop off areas are located on both the departure and arrival floors while a bus pavilion is located outside Concourse A.

Concourse B will have a café for beverages or snacks,a male and female prayer room, and a smoking room. The travellers will enter the passenger terminal complex from the east side entrance and go directly to the check-in counters. After check-in, immigration and security, passengers will be directed on concourse B.

The airlines which will move to HIA from Doha International Airport and operate from concourse B include: Air Arabia, Air India Express, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, flydubai, Iran Air, Nepal Airlines, Pakistan International Airlines, RAK Airways, Syrian Air and Yemen Airways.

Apart from opening of the Concourse B, HIA will also open cargo facilities in phases starting 8 April 2013.
