Ground broken on new $315 million shopping centre in Florida


Taubman Centers Incorporated and Benderson Development Company LLC have broken ground on $315 million shopping centre named 'The Mall at University Town Center' in Sarasota, Florida.


Designed by JPRA Architects, The Mall at University Town Center will be an 880,000 square feet development, located at S.W. quadrant of I-75 and University Parkway. It is expected to solidify the University area as the southwest Florida’s main shopping area.

Built over two-levels, the new mall will consist of more than 100 specialty stores and restaurants. The mall will also accommodate dedicated play area for children and offer concierge/guest services. It will feature an 80,000 square feet Saks Fifth Avenue, a 180,000 square feet Dillard's and a 160,000 square feet Macy's.

The mall has been designed on the lines of sustainable development. It is scheduled to open on 16 October 2014 and is anticipated to generate almost 1,000 construction jobs and over 2,000 permanent jobs.
