Gran Kriegel Associates designs three projects for US Coast Guard

US-based firm Gran Kriegel Associates has designed three projects for United States Coast Guard as part of a multi-year indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract.

The facilities are sited throughout District 1 stretches between Sandy Hook, New Jersey and Eastport, Maine. The projects include upgrades to the control tower at Air Station Cape Cod in Massachusetts, as well as repair and revamp of personnel dormitories at Station Fire Island in New York. It will also involve mid-life refurbishment of Smith Hall which is a physical sciences facility at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.

The Air Station Cape Cod project includes repairs to the US Air Force-built 1950s air traffic control tower. Scope of work encompasses overall life safety upgrades, egress and code compliance, substitution of elevator, and repair of concrete catwalk. The facility will also replace its roof replacement, exterior railing, and galvanized steel siding as part of the project.

The Station Fire Island project involves reconfiguration of living quarters or unaccompanied personnel housing. The interior of the facility will be equipped with basic new fixtures and finishes following the makeover. There will be mechanical and electrical upgrades to achieve better efficiency in heating, cooling and ventilation. The property will now incorporate high-performance water closets and other fixtures abiding by EPA Watersense norms.

The Smith Hall project includes two upgraded labs and incorporation of new interior finishes. New energy-efficient systems will substitute the existing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. The building façade and window will undergo repair work whereas hazardous materials will be abated. There will also be installation of a new passenger elevator. The project will comply by ADA and life safety code requirements.
