Geisinger Medical Group cancer treatment centre gets approval

The city of Pottsville's Office of Code Enforcement has approved a $1.5 million plan to establish the Geisinger Medical Group cancer treatment centre at the Pottsville Hospital.

To be designed by Geisinger System Services, it will be a 5,500 square feet cancer centre on the third floor of the south wing of the East Norwegian Street hospital. It will provide services like hematology and medical oncology as well as a chemotherapy treatment area.

Martin Roger Associates is the engineer for the project while Quandel Enterprises will be the general contractor.

Schuylkill Health, the owner of the centre, acquired a building permit for the project, according to Donald J. Chescavage, Pottsville code enforcement officer. Schuylkill Health and Geisinger Health revealed their plans to develop the cancer centre in September 2011.

Schuylkill Health was established in 2008 through the merger of the former Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center, and Pottsville Hospital and Warne Clinic.
