Gainesville Public Safety Complex bags DBIA design-build award


The $18 million Gainesville Public Safety Complex in Georgia, US has secured a Regional Design-Build award for best public project from the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA).


The design-build project, encompassing a 13-acre area, was executed by Heery International. Construction work on the project commenced in 2009. The facility sports two facilities on a single campus including a justice centre with a police department and municipal court, as well as a fire station. The justice centre covers an area of 52,340 square feet while the fire station spans 28,000 square feet.

The fire station has been equipped with a new advanced slide for firefighters, a 4-engine bay, and new fire engine fitted with foam technology for fuel fires and improved lighting. In addition, the complex incorporates a storm water detention and biodetention pond which covers more than two acres. The pond has been designed to hold about seven feet of water or a maximum of 14 feet during rainy conditions.
