Foster + Partners to design new R&D facility in South Korea

British architectural practice Foster + Partners has been commissioned by the South Korean tyre company Hankook Tire to design a new research and development facility in the city of Daejeon, South Korea.

Spanning 99,175 square metre of space, the new centre will house design, research and testing facilities. Apart from that the new facility will also feature supporting office accommodation, an education centre, a library and series of exhibition spaces in its ambit.

Upon completion, the project will support Hankook Tire's progressive and technologically advanced approach to tyre design and manufacturing and further strengthen research capabilities to develop cutting-edge tyre technology to produce new tyres with more advanced features.

A signing ceremony was held in Daejeon on 7 January 2013 to commemorate the new venture with the construction scheduled to complete by the end of 2015.
