Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport to undergo runway expansion

The South Runway at Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood International Airport (FLL) in Florida is undergoing expansion with the work to begin from 29 April 2013.

As part of the expansion, construction teams will install a temporary safety fence along the Greenbelt’s north border and northwest section.

As part of the expansion, construction workers will install the safety fence and begin the installation of new water and sanitary utilities along the Greenbelt’s north border. A portion of the airport’s service road would be relocated to the northwest section of the Greenbelt.

Trees in the path of the utilities and the relocated road would be transplanted along with replanting of trees in the Greenbelt, Airport property, North Perry Airport, and Markham Park. Landscaping and walkways will be added as part of the project along with installation of a permanent security fence once the construction is completed in the summer of 2014.

The 30-acre Greenbelt is a landscaped earthen berm, which marks the airport’s southern boundary running from the Dania Cut-Off Canal eastward.
