Forest City unveils plans to renovate old Stapleton Air Control tower
US-based real estate company Forest City Enterprises has unveiled plans to renovate the old Stapleton Air Control tower in Denver.
Chris Herndon, a member of Denver City Council, is supporting a community group to study various ways to renovate the crumbling facility.
According to Herndon, the three floors of the office building below the tower would become office space for the Stapleton Master Community Association (MCA), and potentially theatre space to form the Stapleton Tower Community Arts Center.
Tom Gleason, spokesperson of Forest City Stapleton, said that the developer is working on a plan to purchase the site of the tower by the end of 2013 from the Stapleton Development Corporation, which buys the land from Denver International Airport. Time duration and details of the renovation cost were not disclosed.
The 170 foot tall Stapleton Air Control tower which is northwest of Central Park and Martin Luther King Blvd is currently owned by DIA as well as a small parcel of land it sits on. The windows in the observation deck are 7’2” tall with the deck itself spread over 415 square feet. The deck and the offices below occupy 17,920 total square footage. The 12-storey tower also features 250 steps from the ground to the top.
