Chigwell Golf Club, Essex

The key to the renovation of the Chigwell Golf Club was to open up the space to create more light and a contemporary feel. The architecture practice involved in the project, Two by Two Design, was also keen to reflect elements of the golf course into the new design. As such, Desso Ribble carpet tile was installed throughout public areas of the clubhouse to add texture through its distinct pattern of twisted fibre and to provide a sensory experience.

Also specified was Desso Mosaic from the Patterns@ Play collection. This structured loop-pile carpet tile creates a three-dimensional look that reveals itself as the user moves around the space. Adding to this, the details of green tones on the furniture and to the carpets references the putting green just outside. Another consideration was the club's heritage and history, brought to life through black and white prints on the walls and retro fabrics.

'The idea of bringing the course into the clubhouse has been really effective,' says Sav Cicero from Two by Two Designs. 'Previously the clubhouse had windows all along the far wall with high sills that restricted views out on to the course.

Now, the view from the clubhouse and out to the course works well; the experience starts on the course and ends in the clubhouse.' desso.co.uk

Ireland's new further education and training authority, Solas, upgraded its state-of-the-art facilities in Dublin, opting for vinyl flooring from Moduleo.

Verdon Oak 24870 was chosen for the staff restaurant and breakout areas, with RKD Architects citing its timeless style as the key attribute, together with it being easy to clean, durable and scuff-resistant.

Ray O'Connor of Moduleo's Irish agent ROC Agencies, says: 'Hygiene was imperative for the project, but we didn't want to compromise on quality and luxury. As we opted for Click installation, the flooring was easy to fit, and didn't require any timely preparation beforehand.'

The flooring is from Moduleo's Transform range that features a hard-wearing top layer, making it particularly suitable for commercial use. moduleo.co.uk

Concreate has installed its concrete panel flooring in a new retail outlet set up by TV personality and fashion designer Patrick Grant. A judge on the BBC TV series The Great British Sewing Bee, Grant has had the Concreate flooring in Natural Grey installed in his store in Duke Street, London.

Created as a versatile alternative to conventional poured and polished concrete surfaces, floor and wall panels come ready made. Its non-slip properties make it particularly suitable for retail and other public spaces. The Concreate surface is air cured, which gives each panel a natural surface patina. Panels have deliberate marks and stains made by additives such as iron filings, which rust and bleed into the surface. concreateflooring.co.uk
