Emerson J. Dillon Middle School wins LEED Silver


Emerson J. Dillon Middle School in New York, US has secured LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council.


The school now features an addition spanning 80,000 square feet and has also refurbished its 130,000 square feet current building. The building now incorporates various eco-friendly elements. The addition has been designed to offer optimum penetration of natural light in the interior, which reduces energy consumption. It also incorporates improved acoustics, and a new ventilation unit which is not noisy.

Installation of efficient boilers adds to the facility's sustainability. Further, it has been equipped with light sensors to reap energy saving for lighting, and electronic sensors on faucets to slash water usage. Among its various other green features are use of reclaimed materials during construction and reuse of drywall and glass from demolition.
