Dwight School opens new refurbished athletic centre in East Harlem

Dwight School, an independent school on Manhattan's Upper West Side founded in 1872, has opened the newly refurbished Dwight School Athletic Center in the East River Landing cooperative at First Avenue and 108th Street.

The facility, which was lying unused for many years prior to the renovation, now consists of 40,000 square feet of space.

Upgraded with enhancements, the Dwight School Athletic Center features a regulation-size high school gym with bleachers to seat 200, a 25-yard swimming pool, exercise and dance rooms, learning spaces, locker rooms, saunas, and two rooftop tennis courts.

Benefitting both Dwight students and residents of the East River Landing cooperative, the athletic centre will be used by the school for weekday PE and swimming classes; team practices and games for basketball, volleyball, swimming, and tennis; and after-school and summer day camp programs. The athletic centre can also be used by 1199 residents during mornings, evenings, and on weekends.
