Durham police gets approval for new $23 million headquarters
Durham Police Authority has secured approval for a new £15 million ($23.2 million) headquarters at Aykley Heads in Durham, UK.
The new headquarters of the Durham Police will be a three-storey building, with a total area of more than 5,600 square metres. The new headquarters is anticipated to be operational in the first quarter of 2014.
In comparison with the existing headquarters, the new facility will be more energy efficient, which will translate into power savings of up to £750,000 ($1.16 million) per year. The existing headquarters site will be sold, and the funds accrued from sales will be used to finance the construction of the new headquarters.
The Police Authority has also secured the approval for using the existing headquarters site for residential development for around 227 homes which will be two, three, four and five bedroom properties.
