Downing wins approval for $40 million student apartment block in UK

George Downing Construction has received approval for a £25 million ($39.26 million) student residential tower in Central Village in Liverpool, UK.

Designed by John McAslan + Partners, the project involves construction of a 21-storey residential tower, which will sit adjacent to Downing's Central Village scheme. The development will provide 404 cluster bedrooms.

At the ground level, the tower will feature full height glazing. The upper levels will be clad in light grey terracotta . The glass and terracotta façade is likely to complement earlier phases of the scheme.

Construction on the scheme is scheduled to begin in early 2013, with completion expected by 2014.

The development is the Phase II of Central Village. The phase I is a £40 million ($62.81 million) scheme, which involves development of a mixed-use scheme, slated for completion in September 2012.
