With over 90 nominations, this year's contenders include the Olympic Cauldron by Heatherwick Studio, The Shard designed by Renzo Piano and the Rain Room installation at Barbican by Random International.

We are also very glad to see Studio Swine - our One to Watch for January - nominated with the Sea Chair. Created in collaboration with British designer Kieren Jones, the chair is made entirely of plastic recovered from oceans.

The Designs of the Year exhibition opens on 20 March at the Design Museum in London and the winners will be announced on 17 April 2013.
