Denver Art Museum to break ground on new administration building

The Denver Art Museum (DAM) will break ground on its new 50,000-square foot staff office building, designed by Roth Sheppard Architects, in April 2013.

The new building will be located immediately west of the museum’s Hamilton Building and directly south of the Clyfford Still Museum on property that currently serves as a staff parking lot.

The new building will allow a more efficient work environment and closer collaboration among museum staff. It will also contain a research library and 9,000-square feet of collection storage which will help in reopening the space inside the museum’s North Building for public programs and exhibitions.

The new building will add new foot traffic throughout the Golden Triangle neighbourhood, generating positive economic impact on the area. The sleek and elegant design will complement the architecture of the Gio Ponti-designed North Building and Daniel Libeskind-designed Hamilton Building.

The new building’s open floor plan will also provide team members with optimal working and meeting spaces to inspire creativity.

Currently, more than 100 museum employees, including administration, curators and other staff, are housed in office space five blocks away at 14th Street and Tremont.

The privately-funded, $11.5 million project is slated to be completed in the spring of 2014. Saunders Construction is the contractor of the project.
