Decorex 2012 celebrates 35th anniversary in London
The 35th edition of Decorex International 2012, which will be held from 23-26 September in London, will offer bespoke craftsmanship.
Various exhibitors, offering bespoke services, will exhibit at the event. This year, exhibitors will present an array of new and bespoke products, each exquisitely crafted to the highest standard.
Furniture & Accessories
Royal Warrant Holders, NEJ Stevenson, would be one of the exhibitors in the show. Known for creating heritage and contemporary pieces of furniture, in a wide variety of styles, it will showcase Revolver Animation, a distinctive multi-functional circular table. The table is designed to transform when spun in one direction with an undulating wave-like surface above a yellow spiral base.
Another bespoke example is a contemporary interpretation of a mahogany bench with a curved slatted base and a red leather seat. Julian Chichester is known for producing classically inspired English furniture. Every piece can be customised, from the size and the finish to the final size. The company is also able to create new pieces from a simple sketch.
Crafted, a mentoring programme, will be exhibiting once again with a host of new, talented designers. Among the designers is Angela Cork who will showcase her contemporary simple clear silverware designs, such as the Cork Pivot dish, made using traditional hand-made techniques. In addition, she also undertakes commissions for bespoke one-off pieces or larger quantities depending on the request.
Lighting
New to Decorex 2012 would be Copper & Silk, which produce handmade bespoke lampshades from their London workshop. Each lampshade is made to order using the finest materials in a variety of traditional and contemporary styles with a range of colour options available to suit client’s specific requests. British lighting designer Tom Kirk works with a diverse range of techniques and materials to create bespoke pieces, according to the brief.
Fabric & Wallcoverings
Customising natural materials in the kitchen and bathroom is still a popular way to create an interesting and distinctive element to the home. Livre UK works with a wide range of natural stones such as marble, granite, slate and limestone, to create individual and original products, including bespoke amber onyx showers and Calacatta box sinks and kitchen work tops.
Fromental, the creators of exquisite handmade wallpapers and fabrics, will be introducing Decorex visitors to their Head Artist Master Wong from China for the show. Craftsmanship plays a key part in every design produced and he will be demonstrating the extraordinary skill that goes in to these handpainted designs.
AO Textiles produces bespoke sustainable textiles for private clients. The team has a background in textile techniques such as embroidery, natural dying, weaving and hand-marbling. They are able to customise and devise new designs according to the request. In addition, they will present a new collection of sustainable, luxury, jacquard woven fabrics and designs in partnership with Gainsborough Silk Weavers that includes the Mineral collection.
Carpets and Flooring
Veedon Fleece is known for creating bespoke rugs that are hand woven in their own workshops in Kathmandu in Nepal. Materials used include, muga silk and veedon to Tibetan wool, with every rug designed to exact specifications. In addition, Veedon Fleece will launch their new collection that includes the St Marks rug.
Weldon Contracts specialise in creating bespoke parquet, marquetry and antique flooring in a variety of different woods and brass inlays. Each floor design is original and distinctive, from the more traditional patterns such as a Greek key border and decorative marquetry to more unusual designs such as the client’s initials incorporated within the overall design.
Decorex 2012 will be held in the grounds of The Royal Hospital Chelsea London, from 23-26 September.
