David Chipperfield to renovate New National Gallery at the Kulturforum
British architect David Chipperfield has bagged a contract to refurbish the New National Gallery at the Kulturforum in Berlin, Germany.
The facility, designed by Mies van der Rohe, will refurbish its structural elements such as steel supports, reinforced concrete, steel and glass façade as part of the project. The visible surfaces like stone and terrace will be restored. The security and fire protection equipment will also be substituted following the makeover.
All the visible fixtures installed in the building will be upgraded and preserved post overhaul. The current furniture pieces adorning the facility will be restored. The project will also upgrade the coat check, museum shop and café to comply by existing museum standards.
The project is slated to commence by early 2015 and be completed within a duration of slightly less than three years.
