Courtyard San Diego hotel to begin $5.5 million renovation

The Courtyard San Diego Downtown hotel in California is planning to undertake $5.5 million renovation project by late 2012 that will encompass the Courtyard by Marriott package while adding accents inspired by San Diego and the hotel’s existing décor.

The renovation project is aimed at transforming the interior space of the guest rooms, meeting space and lobby, while still retaining the historical features of the 1928-built Trust & Savings Bank building.

The lobby contains a painted plaster ceiling featuring a geometric design along with 35 decorative columns faced with marble from three different continents. The new design will be set to enhance these features in the lobby as they are the hotel's one of the most popular attractions.

The Courtyard by Marriott renovations will include the addition of electronic Go Boards, community tables and pods that offer secluded work space and Starbucks coffee in the lobby. In the guest rooms, refrigerators and microwaves will be added. The dark wood finishes, deep purple upholstery, white linens and yellow and teal accents will be added to complement the California culture.

This renovation will feature upgrades but will also preserve the historical bank elements of the building. The Safe Deposit Box Room will still feature the vault entrance and the copula will still have a 360 degree view of the city.

The Presidential Suite of this San Diego Marriott hotel, which has a sprawling view of the west side of the city, will also be renovated including the balcony space.

The renovation work will begin in late 2012.
