Construction underway on CHUSJ's new facilities


Canadian engineering and construction services firm SNC-Lavalin Group Incorporated has begun construction on Grandir en santé expansion project of the CHU Sainte-Justine (CHUSJ) in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.


The Grandir en santé expansion project involves construction of two new buildings for specialized care and research. It includes a Research Centre which will have a total area of 26,696 square metres. There will also creation of a building to house specialized care units. It will be a seven-level structure, which will encompass a total area of 43,269 square metres.

The specialized care building will be built to the west of the existing CHUSJ and will be linked to it, at every level, by means of bridges and underground passages. The building will accommodate specialized care units for integrated pediatrics, specialized pediatrics and trauma surgery.

The building will have 120 beds, a 14-room surgery department with 11 operating suites and three procedure rooms, and 32 paediatric intensive and intermediate care beds. Other features include a 20-bed high risk pregnancy unit, a 23-bed birth unit, 80 intensive care beds in neonatology, as well as medical imaging facilities.

Under the terms of the contract SNC-Lavalin will offer engineering, construction and financing for the scheme. The company has already begun construction on the project and plans to complete it by the end of 2016.
