Construction underway for Young Harris College residential scheme in North Georgia

Construction has started for a new project in Young Harris College in North Georgia, US, designed by the Atlanta-based architectural practice Lord, Aeck & Sargent, Inc., which will configure a student-residence complex in small communities called pods.

As a part of the liberal arts college's transformation from a two-year college to a comprehensive four-year institution, the new scheme will provide 200 beds for first-year students.

Fostering student interaction, the new scheme will offer space for both learning and living. The new 62,000 square feet, pod-style complex will feature three adjoining pavilions, two four-storied buildings and one three-storied building. The rooms will be of different sizes and styles surrounding a common bath area. Apart from that, it will also feature study and social spaces.

The complex is being developed by Hardin Construction Company to LEED standards and is targeting LEED certification. The scheme is scheduled for occupancy in fall 2013.
