Construction underway for Day Centre and Medical Practice in Gullane
Construction work has started on the £2.9 million ($4.41 million) Day Centre and Medical Practice in Gullane, Scotland which will provide a day centre and a new home for the local GP practice.
Incorporating energy-efficient measures, the contemporary design of the building will feature a living sedum roof and air source heating. The heat pump extracts heat from the outside air in the same way that a fridge extracts heat from its inside and can get heat from the air even when the temperature outside is well below freezing.
Apart from that the building will use locally sourced materials including sandstone and timber frames for construction.
The new medical centre is being delivered by the hub South East Scotland Limited (hubCo) and built by UK-based Graham Construction. It is a joint development between NHS Lothian and the Council, and is the first joint agency project to be developed in East Lothian by the hub South East Scotland Territory programme.
The new purpose-built Day Centre and Medical Practice facility is due to be complete by November 2013.
