Construction begins on Diamond View III scheme in North Carolina
Construction has begun on a mixed-use development known as the Diamond View III in Durham, North Carolina, US.
Designed by SmithGroupJJR LLC, a US-based design practice, the scheme is being developed at 359 Blackwell Street in downtown Durham within the former industrial site of American Tobacco Campus. Lend Lease will serve as the project's general contractor.
The five-storey facility will have a total area of 133,000 square feet and will accommodate Class A office space as well as retail and dining spaces on the ground floor. Diamond View III design will reflect influence of architectural styles of the site's original warehouses on one side and contemporary architecture on the other.
The building's facade will be created using brick, glass and metal, which will connect it to the original design of the existing campus. The building will have repetitious pattern of vertical openings, inspired by the warehouse windows across the street.
The building will have balconies, which will give views of the campus, ballpark and other Durham landmarks. The building's envelope will be carved in a way that it highlights the entries and retail storefronts.
