Conrad New York hotel opens doors


Conrad Hotels & Resorts makes a debut in New York, US with opening of the Conrad New York hotel.


The all-463 suite building encompasses 16 floors. Its 15-level atrium has been designed to allow daylight penetration. The atrium has been adorned in blue and purple Sol LeWitt painting which rises 13 stories above the registration desk.

All the suites, ranging in size from 430 square feet, have been styled by interior designer Jill Greaves. The suites have been fitted with two flat panel TVs, mini bar, an iPod sound dock, one-touch technologies, and offer wireless internet service. The rooms also sport custom furnishings, separate working and relaxation areas, and large washrooms.

The hotel comprises over 30,000 square feet of flexible meeting space. It includes the Gallery Ballroom spanning more than 6,200 square feet. The ballroom, having a capacity to accommodate 600, features high ceilings and provides advanced presentation and communication technologies. Further, 26 guest suites of the hotel can be converted into 1:1 meeting area.

The facility also houses the Loofy Doopy rooftop bar allowing 180-degree views of the Statue of Liberty, Ellis Island, New York Harbour and Hudson River. Among other features of the hotel include the Atrio restaurant with an open kitchen, and a green roof designed by landscape architect Ken Smith.

The property imbibes several green features including a green roof and chef's roof garden. Over 60% of the lighting systems installed in the hotel are powered by LEDs which run low on energy usage. The building has also been equipped with low flow plumbing fixtures to reduce water consumption. Other green features include use of low-VOC materials to upgrade indoor air quality, use of Energy Star-certified kitchen equipments, and installation of LED bike racks for public use.
